Why walk?

Earlier this week, having thought long and hard about it, I signed up for the 3 Day Breast Cancer Walk scheduled for Labor Day weekend here in Seattle. Joining me for team training walks starting in mid-April on Mondays, Wednesdays, and Fridays are three colleagues. Coaching me on Tuesdays and Thursdays is Amy, my personal trainer.

My goal is to get myself in shape through the training and, in doing so, to raise at least $25,000 for the Susan B. Komen Foundation.

By walking, I honor all those who fought or are fighting cancer. In particular, I recognize two special members of my family, both of whom dealt with breast cancer -- my mother, deceased; and my sister Mary, fiesty. Here is a picture of us at a large family luncheon last December in Philadelphia.
